I’d packed up my small suitcase with the few belongings I’d been living off the last few months and looked out my windscreen into the now-dark evening and the lit up city, upset at myself at the little amount I had achieved while living this life.
I think it may have been the fact that I finished half of the bottle of whiskey that Ryan left, but something wasn’t letting me leave the club just yet. I promised myself just one more night to get some closure and say my goodbyes to everybody. After that, I was outta there.
I swerved slightly, thanking the Gods that the club was pretty close to my apartment because I should definitely not have been driving in that state. Where had all my morals gone?
I heard the pumping metal music approaching and saw the bonfire lit up behind the fence with about a hundred or so members from the other chapters everywhere.
After one last look in the mirror and one last sip of alcohol, I climbed out of the car and began stomping my way toward the party in my six inch heels. If I’d be leaving, it would be with a bang so loud that Heath would realize the errors of his way.
“Katie,” said a voice. I looked over to see Mimi, an old lady of the club, sitting on the couch squeezing her hands at me like a toddler wanting its mother. I walked over to her and gave her a hug. “Where have you been gorgeous?”
“I was just held up with some shit,” I said and sat down beside her. The others around us were smoking blunts and necking back beers but I already felt too drunk, or too over it, to join in.
“Hun, Ryan told us how angry you were this afternoon. What happened with you two? I always thought you’d end up together.”
“With him? No way. He just made a move on me and I wasn’t having it today.”
“He’s a good kid, you know,” she said, stroking at my hair.
“He really isn’t. He’s too angry and like…twisted.”
“Uh, newsflash. They’re all angry and twisted, hun, and that’s why we’re here. So we can use our energy fixing them in hopes it somehow fixes us.” I thought on that for a while and established that she was totally right. “Come on, let’s go say hi to some of the others, huh?”
She took my hand and led me to the group standing around the fire. I couldn’t take my eyes off Heath who was standing in the distance chatting to Wills and Ryan. I’d never been able to look away. He was so sexy and the fact the rest of the club loved him made him all that much more attractive. Ryan wasn’t bad either, to be honest. I had to give him some credit. Something about a guy who can protect you and fuck a dude up with his bare hands makes you almost forgive them for all of his other downfalls. He’d used that skill for me one, and it really did give me a soft spot for him.
